It’s common for teeth to become dull and stained over time, even if you practice good oral hygiene and see your dentist regularly. However, whitening treatments performed by a teeth bleaching dentist are a safe and effective way to dramatically improve the look of your smile.

Why Should You Choose In-Office Teeth Whitening?

Professional teeth whitening treatments can improve the color of your teeth and enhance your confidence in just one treatment. With our professional whitening gel, the improvements to your smile are immediate.

Most patients can remove tooth stains and discoloration caused by the consumption of specific foods and drinks (tea, coffee, red wine, and soda) and long-term tobacco use; however, there are specific types of stains that don’t respond well to professional whitening. These include overexposure to fluoride, advanced tooth decay, and long-term use of tetracycline. In addition, if you have any dental restorations, such as crowns, fillings, or veneers, they may stay the same color.

Since professional whitening treatments aren’t permanent, we recommend in-office touch-ups or an at-home treatment to maintain your gleaming smile. To help you achieve the whiter smile you’ve always wanted, our dentists will listen to your goals and work with you to design a teeth whitening treatment plan. Call our office today to schedule your appointment.

How to Do Teeth Whitening at Home

Other than our in-office teeth whitening treatment, we also provide patients with the option to brighten their smiles at home with our professional whitening kits. With this treatment option, we’ll take impressions of your mouth during your first appointment. The impressions are used to design a custom-made whitening tray that fits the shape of your mouth perfectly. Composed of a clear plastic material, the whitening trays look very similar to a mouth guard. We’ll provide you with a supply of our professional-strength bleaching gel that you’ll use to fill your whitening tray. You’ll wear the whitening tray for about an hour each day. Within two weeks, it’s possible to lighten your teeth by six shades. We are pleased to offer Opalescence Go and Smile Perfected take home teeth whitening kits.

What Does Teeth Whitening Cost?

In general, in-office teeth whitening costs more than our at-home whitening kits, but it’s important to keep in mind that there are also other variables that can affect your total costs. Examples include how many treatments are needed to whiten your teeth, whether any follow-up visits are required, and the level of tooth discoloration present.

Professional whitening is considered an elective cosmetic treatment and is not typically covered by dental insurance. Please call our office to schedule an appointment if you’d like more information about teeth bleaching cost. We’ll provide an accurate estimate of your teeth whitening costs during your consultation.

Difference Between Professional vs. DIY Teeth Whitening

You want to whiten your teeth, but are over-the-counter teeth whitening products just as effective as a professional treatment? It’s possible to see some slight improvements with do-it-yourself options, but if you’re looking for fast and effective whitening, you should consider treatment from a teeth bleaching dentist. When used incorrectly, over-the-counter products like whitening strips, mouth rinses, and toothpaste can cause gum irritation, damage your tooth enamel, or cause uneven whitening results. Since the whitening gel used by dentists is highly concentrated, you can achieve whiter teeth quickly and reliably. In addition, in-office treatments are performed under careful supervision, ensuring a safe and pain-free experience.

How Is Teeth Whitening Performed?

The specific system used by your dentist determines the steps for your in-office teeth whitening treatment. Most in-office whitening procedures can be completed in an hour. Keep reading to learn about the steps involved in a standard teeth whitening treatment:

  1. Your teeth are examined and prepped for treatment with a professional cleaning.
  2. To monitor your progress before and after treatment, photos of your teeth may be taken.
  3. A small device known as a cheek retractor is placed in your mouth to expose all of your visible teeth.
  4. A liquid barrier is applied to the gums to protect them from irritation.
  5. Next, the whitening gel is carefully applied to your teeth. Several coatings of the gel may be needed, and each application is left on your teeth for a certain period of time before being removed.
  6. Depending on the type of bleaching gel used by your dentist, it may be light activated.
  7. Between each application of whitening gel, your dentist will evaluate the color change of your teeth and determine if additional applications are needed.
  8. After the final bleaching gel application, your teeth are rinsed and the cheek retractor is removed. Finally, your results are evaluated, and the dentist determines if you need any follow-up treatments or an at-home treatment.
